Rooster Davis Music
The Rooster Davis Group is centred around the second line and funk rhythms found in New Orleans, and has all the jump and bounce that NOLA is known for. Like many bands from New Orleans, RDG focuses around the piano, horns, and "get out of your chair and dance" grooves. The driving piano/Hammond organ of Rooster Davis acts as rhythm, lead, and bass to form the backbone of the group, with Peter Hendrickson on drums delivering the polyrhythmic second line to round out the rhythm section. The group also features one of Edmotonton's best singers and songwriters, Ann Vriend, on vocals and percussion, and the brilliant trombone playing of Audrey Ochoa, one of Canada's best horn players. These four players make up the core of the group, but you will often see more of Edmonton's exceptional horn players sitting in on Second Line Sunday's at the Needle Tavern.
The Rooster Davis Group is not a Dixieland swing band, although they may decide to swing out every now and then, but rather a New Orleans flavoured blues, funk, and soul mini orchestra with the sounds of both the traditional and the modern music coming from the Crescent City. This band can really throw down and must be heard to be appreciated!
